  • “It’s not just enough for America to say that Black lives matter,” Mr Crump said. “We have to show that Black lives matter by our actions.”
  • The family of George Floyd will receive a $27 million settlement from the Minneapolis City Council. In July 2020, the Floyd family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the city of Minneapolis. The settlement will be paid by the city of Minneapolis. The family have decided that $5000,000 of this settlement will go towards funding community projects in underfunded Black communities.
  •  The settlement will not affect the trial of Derek Chauvin, the police officer charged with the murder of George Floyd. An additional charge of third-degree murder has been added to the charges against Chauvin. Currently six jurors have been selected for the trial.
  • Jacob Frey, the Mayor of Minneapolis, states that this settlement is a step towards restoring justice and racial equality. The family of George Floyd express their gratitude to the public for the support they have demonstrated in the Black Lives Matter protests but request that supporters remain peaceful during the trial of Derek Chauvin.
