Howard University announced that they will be naming the College of Fine Arts after Howard alumni, Chadwick Boseman. Boseman graduated from Howard University with a Bachelor of Arts in Directing in 2000. In addition, he was the elected speaker for the 2018 University Commencement Ceremony. In August 2020, Boseman passed away at the age of 43 due to colon cancer.
The decision to rename the college in honour of Boseman was a result of a petition signed by almost 60,000 people demanding that the College of Fine Arts be named in commemoration of the late actor.
