Pupils staged a walkout protest at Pimlico Academy in March (PA)

Daniel Smith, the headteacher of Pimlico Academy, has announced that he will be resigning from his position following backlash regarding school uniform policies. Smith was accused of racial and religious discrimination as many students claimed that his newly implemented uniform policy targeted pupils from ethnic minorities.

The policies did not allow hairstyles that “block the view of others” and wearing headscarves that are “too colourful” and that must “completely cover the hair”. Following this new uniform policy, students staged a walk-out protest and a petition was signed by hundreds of pupils over the uniform policy.

In response, the uniform policies were rolled back and the headteacher issued a formal apology to the students and staff at Pimlico Academy. A school representative stated that Senior Vice Principal Mr Anthony Oulton will be taking on the position of headmaster at the end of the month.
