  • Stacey Abrams criticises a bill supported by Republicans that will restrict voter’s access to early voting in Georgia. This will disproportionately affect ethnic minority communities which would lead to lower voter turnouts in elections. In the previous election, higher numbers of individuals from ethnic minorities voted, which contributed to the Democratic party winning the election. Abram claims that Republicans want to prevent this from happening again by restricting voter’s rights.
  • The bill, SB241, would mean that citizens would not be able to vote by mail without a good reason and must provide extensive proof of identification. Republicans claim that this bill will prevent voter fraud, despite the lack of evidence for this claim.
  • On 3rd March 2021, the Democratic party passed a bill to ensure that voting would be made more accessible to the public. Abrams criticises the practice of filibusters in delaying the implementation of this bill. There have been debates of whether the rules of filibusters should be removed from the legislative process. Abrams states that this practice should not interfere with matters such as voters rights, which is a key element of democracy. President Joe Biden has commented that he supports this bill, but he is not willing to remove the practice of filibusters altogether.
